Our course is specially designed for managers working within health and social care settings, helping to improve their skills by focusing on their workplace. We look at managing, leading and supervising strategies within your organisation, conceptualising underpinning theories and principles with management and leadership practices. You'll focus on your own workplace and explore how the knowledge you learn can best be applied to your work setting, ensuring that you get the relevant information to help advance your career. If you've got the ambition to improve your qualifications, then our masters level course will prove your skills and give you a head start in climbing the employment ladder.
You will need to complete an induction prior to commencement of your first module. We have a comprehensive online induction package to welcome you to both the university and your programme of study; alternatively classroom-based induction days take place at our Lancaster and Carlisle campuses and are usually scheduled for the first week of each semester.
We offer a distinctive masters programme that provides the chance to critically review, consolidate and extend knowledge and application of a range of management and leadership theories and skill. By building on key skills, you'll demonstrate a mastery in the application of innovative approaches to effective collaborative and partnership working. We encourage the development of intellectual, analytical and problems solving skills to support the advancement of mature and independent decision making and judgement.
The Postgraduate Certificate can be topped up to Postgraduate Diploma Management and Leadership in Health and Social Care, with the completion of another 60 credits, or MSc Management and Leadership in Health and Social Care if including the dissertation.
1st or 2nd class honours degree. Students with other qualifications may be admitted to the course via Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) procedures. It is envisaged that students accessing this programme will be managers or team leaders within health and social care, and will therefore come to the programme with experience and expertise in their field. It is hoped this experience will contribute to the process of learning and enhance the learning experience.
