Course outline

Building on the legacy of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, we intend to bridge the gap between exercise and health, preparing students for work or further study in this exciting field. Our core elements are tackling obesity and mental health issues, which have been identified as key health issues by the Department of Health, and also locally by the Cumbria Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy. This comes during a five-year national investment programme of £800 million into the development of research into Exercise, Health and Sports Medicine.

This course has been developed with a range of health and exercise specialists to address the needs of the contemporary workforce. You'll be equipped with the tools and insights required to provide professional solutions to ill-health, maintaining healthy outcomes and preventing disease. We will help you understand the complex background to health risks, how to develop interventions, and how to critically analyse policy and practice.

This wide-ranging, inter-disciplinary approach can lead to varied careers across health, exercise and sporting sectors.
