This course is perfect for those currently working in an Early Years setting, helping you engage in higher level professional development to show you meet the Teachers' Standards (Early Years).
The course is fully funded by the National College for School Leadership, your tuition fees are paid and your employer will receive £7,000 to support your training, allowing you to focus on your studies without worrying about payment. We'll prepare you to teach across the Early Years Foundation Stage from 0-5, understanding the key requirements of the primary curriculum beyond the reception class. You'll start with an induction day to introduce you to the tutors and support staff who will support you in 10 training days across the programme. A personalised programme of work-based learning in your setting, and alternative placements, will be negotiated with you and your employer. This will be facilitated by online learning materials and activities to complete between sessions, allowing you to continue your current employment whilst working on your course. A trained mentor will observe your practice and review your progress in 3 key assessment points, providing individualised support for your development.
Your personal tutor will support your learning, meeting with you regularly during the course and setting targets. We will cover inclusive practice, creating enabling environments, the links between behaviour and learning, and how effective planning and assessment can support this. You'll have everything you need to gain a secure knowledge of early childhood development, providing a safe and nurturing environment where young children can reach their full potential.
You will be awarded Early Years Teacher Status which can lead to a successful career as an early years teacher.
Other admission requirements
A BA or BSc (Hons) degree or equivalent qualification. GCSE grade 'C' or above in English language, maths and science. Successful completion of the professional skills test in literacy and numeracy before the start of the course. A satisfactory academic (university) reference and a satisfactory professional reference if more than three years since academic study. All candidates must demonstrate professional suitability through interview and must obtain medical and enhanced DBS clearance according to established university procedures. Applicants must be currently employed in an early years setting. If the applicant is employed in a maintained setting they must be employed as an unqualified teacher on at least point 1 of the unqualified teacher pay scale.
1st or 2nd class honours degree. Students with other qualifications may be admitted to the course via Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) procedures. See course description for further admission details.
