Strategic Leadership


Course Description

The programme runs over 18 months and leads to a Postgraduate Certificate in Strategic Leadership.

This reflects the development of strategic skills for a wide range of senior managers who are required to act corporately, manage change, possess specialist knowledge, think strategically, plan effectively, and carry out various kinds of practical research.

The Programme develops each manager’s strategic approach to learning and enhances his or her ownership of continuous learning and professional, personal and managerial development. Throughout the link between the organisations strategic aims and the managers learning remain central.

Aims of the Programme

The overall aim of the Programme is to broaden managers’ skills so that they may deal with the challenges of the future. In particular the Programme aims to ensure that successful students will:

be more strategic in their thinking
keep abreast of changes
learn more from each other and other significant players
make better use of resources
manage knowledge more effectively
be more flexible and creative
possess highly tuned skills for negotiation
Distinctive Features
The course is run in partnership between a collaborative / commissioning partner and the University of Chichester
The course operates on ‘self-managed’ learning principles and builds on practical work experience and uses action learning sets
Teaching assessment
Production of Personal Development Plan at the end of Phase One; Achievement of PDP together with successful presentation at the end of Phase Two

Entry Requirements

Candidates should normally have an honours degree (although a combination of professional qualifications and experience is also accepted) and several years’ experience in health or social care and be in a management position (or shortly to move into a management post).Applicants who do not have academic or professional qualifications can be assessed on their ability to cope with sustained academic work and who are able to demonstrate that through their work they can operate at postgraduate level.
