This programme enables you to deepen your understanding of Christian theology through advanced study of significant texts, doctrines, concepts and histories from a range of disciplinary perspectives. A core module facilitates critical engagement with key texts from the Christian tradition and contemporary approaches to theology and the development of research skills, while a wide variety of optional modules are available in systematic theology, biblical studies, theological ethics, contextual and practical theology and religious studies.
This MA offers an excellent way to extend theological studies beyond an undergraduate degree, to pursue professional or ministerial development or to prepare for doctoral research. It provides a rich, well-structured course of study for anyone fascinated by theology, the meanings and challenges of Christian faith and texts, both historical and contemporary, and in their relationship with society and culture.
Students participate virtually by studying modules at a distance with online resources and tutorial support, or by a mixture of virtual and face-to-face study at the Parkgate Road Campus, Chester.
By studying this programme you will join a flourishing postgraduate community in the department of Theology and Religious Studies and have the opportunity to attend Departmental Research Seminars and take part in MA Symposia and our Postgraduate Training programme.
