MA in Education and Modern Foreign Languages

Course Description

This Masters programme will support your personal and professional development as a reflective practitioner so that you can better appreciate both the latest developments in pedagogy and educational theory and improve the breadth and/or depth of your subject knowledge in Languages. The MA also provides a significant focus on conducting research to help you become an adept researcher and to support and improve your practice whilst appreciating the limits of enquiry.


The MA Education with Languages comprises 7 modules which include 6 taught modules and a 60 credit dissertation:
The Critical Professional
Developing Innovation in Teaching, Learning and Assessment
Designing and Planning Your Research Project
Second Language Acquisition
Methodology in TESOL

One of the following depending on your language specialism:
French Language
German Language
Spanish Language

Entry Requirements

You will be expected to be working in an educational setting and will hold a first degree at 2:2 level or above in Languages or a related subject. A minimum level of B2 (or equivalent) from the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages is required in the appropriate Modern Foreign Language. IELTS at a minimum of level 6.5, with a minimum of level 6 in Reading and Writing, or equivalent. A UCLan based language assessment is available on request. We will also consider applications from individuals with alternative significant prior experience and/or professional training in education.
