MSc Advanced Electronic and Electrical Engineering

Course Description

The course is intended to offer a route to an MSc to those prospective students who do not wish to specialise in a particular area within the discipline at this stage, either because they are uncertain of which area they would like to focus on, or because they wish to show a broad profile to as wide a range of potential employers of professional electronic and electrical engineers as possible. Accordingly, the course is specifically designed for students who wish to pursue advanced studies across the range of specialist areas relevant to electronic and electrical engineering.

The distinctive feature of the proposed MSc is its flexible structure which allows students to construct a set of modules, hence customising the structure/content of the course to meet their academic interests and career aspirations. The core modules are used to ensure there is depth and breadth in core areas that are generally associated with electronic and electrical engineering. The options allow students the choice and flexibility that other MSc programmes do not allow.

The course will allow graduates with an Electronic and Electrical Engineering background to develop their skills further as well as allowing able students from other numerate degree backgrounds to build up strong expertise in this area to complement their original undergraduate studies. The wide range of specialist areas within the discipline covered by optional modules means the course can prepare its students for a wide range of career pathways within the discipline.

Postgraduate Academic Excellence Scholarships
The scholarship is available for PGT courses at Brunel starting from September 2014 and focuses on two key audiences, namely high calibre prospective PG students and our alumni who wish to undertake further postgraduate study at Brunel. It is available to both Home/ EU and International students.In order to attract high calibre students and encourage them to undertake postgraduate study we intend to offer this scholarship as a discount of 15% off the tuition fees for anyone who has obtained a first class undergraduate degree from a UK University, either in the UK or abroad.Additionally Brunel has always offered a reduction in PG tuition fees for Brunel alumni and Brunel students who take up postgraduate education could receive the '15% graduate discount'.These two discounts are not exclusive and therefore a Brunel alumnus who has a first class undergraduate degree can receive both.There are exclusions to this offer. Please read the terms and conditions carefully to determine whether you are eligible.

Women in Engineering Scholarships - 20+ Awards

The Women in Engineering Programme supports female graduates to attain their full potential in the engineering profession. The Programme consists of a bespoke mentoring scheme (all mentors are professionals), personal professional development training and visits to industry. The Programme also includes a £10,000 Women in Engineering Award for 30 selected female students starting their full-time masters studies in September 2015 on a range of MSc courses.This Programme aims to help you promote yourself as an engineer, have a better understanding of the career paths and opportunities available to you, and develop a network of key contacts to help you rise to the top of your profession.

You must be a female UK/EU student applying for one of the relevant MSc full-time courses listed on our website: http://www.brunel.ac.uk/cedps/courses/women-in-engineering.
You must be studying for your undergraduate degree in the UK, having paid the £9,000 per annum undergraduate tuition fee, and will graduate in 2014/15.
You must have an undergraduate degree in Engineering, Technology, Science or Mathematics, and be eligible for associate or graduate membership of one of the UK Engineering Institutions.
Additional conditions may apply to students from Wales, Northern Ireland or Scotland who may be receiving additional funding. Please contact the university for further details.

Application Procedure

There is no separate application procedure for this scholarship. How well you fit the criteria will be based on information taken from your postgraduate application form (application is online via the Brunel website). You should ensure that you submit a strong personal statement that answers the key points above. A good reference from your employer or supervisor will also be an important factor.Applications to the Women in Engineering programme will also be considered from graduate engineers who do not qualify for the current Women in Engineering scholarship.Places on the programme may be offered conditional to receipt of impending qualifications, if it is evident that other criteria have been met. The deadline for application is 1 September 2015.

Entry Requirements

A UK first or second class Honours degree qualification or equivalent internationally recognised qualification usually in Electronic and Electrical Engineering or a high degree of mathematical competence, such as Physics, Mathematics and other branches of Engineering. The non Electronics and Electrical based degree applicants will be assessed individually by the course director. Those with relevant experience are considered on an individual basis.
