The UK is a world leader in the media production industries with numerous film post-production, broadcast and games companies located in the London area. The continued digitisation of the multimedia industry and the different types and flexibility of digital transmission of media has resulted in the diversification of multimedia. Many existing multimedia organisations have found it very difficult to keep up with the incredible pace of change, and this is resulting in the emergence of a great number of small and medium sized specialist multimedia organisations. The growth of these multimedia design companies means there is a growing demand for artistically talented and technically skilled graduates, who show artistic design talent.
This new course provides a unique mix of multimedia and interaction design processes, design of 3D virtual reality and animation media, AV media and effects, and intelligent media combined with real and virtual studio and on-location multimedia creation. It not only focuses on the creative art and design aspects of digital media, but also on the theory and practice of the technical tools and techniques required for creating intelligent, interactive real and virtual reality media through the development of design and technology knowledge, understanding and skills.
This programme in aims to develop a thorough knowledge of the design principles and techniques required for the design of combined real and virtual interactive and intelligent multimedia and an appreciation of the current research directions and opportunities that are available in this field of research.
Specific aims of this programme are to:
- Develop advanced knowledge and skills relevant to the design and creation of combined real and virtual interactive and intelligent multimedia and tools to assist in the creation of combined real and virtual interactive and intelligent multimedia. - Develop the ability of designing complex combined real and virtual interactive and intelligent multimedia creations, and the versatility to apply a variety of different design tools and technologies across a range of different media areas to realise the creation. - Develop creativity and independent learning ability required for continuing professional development, further research, and for acquiring new skills at a high level.

There were a number of reasons I chose this MSc: the course content was an exciting combination of digital media disciplines - 3D modeling, interaction design, postproduction and Brunel's reputable name was the initial attraction for me.
Brunel's media facilities are fantastic. They are well resourced with a vast amount of Mac work stations and powerful PCs, which are equipped with industry standard software and access to 4K cameras! I strongly recommend taking a tour around the media facilities. The course requires you to think technically as well as creatively, this helps in problem solving and producing innovative and artistic content.
The teaching staff were excellent; the teaching style and lab sessions worked very well - I've learnt a great deal over the duration of the course.
My MSc dissertation was a collaborative project with ITN Productions. The collaboration mostly involved several meetings of me presenting my initial ideas for my dissertation project, and then continuously refining these, until both parties were happy, to move onto the production phase. My dissertation was titled VFX & postproduction in anti-knife crime advertising. I chose this research area simply because I wish to pursue a career in the VFX and postproduction industry. In addition to this, I wanted to produce something that I'm passionate about, which is using media as a tool for social change.
The MSc course has given me a wider expertise in advanced media technologies, which I believe will set me apart from the competition, and I would recommend this MSc course to those who want to be technically and creatively challenged.
I’m currently employed as a Junior Digital Producer in Digital Production for INK (a global publishing company), whilst I continue to work on my personal film & VFX projects.

Postgraduate Academic Excellence Scholarships The scholarship is available for PGT courses at Brunel starting from September 2014 and focuses on two key audiences, namely high calibre prospective PG students and our alumni who wish to undertake further postgraduate study at Brunel. It is available to both Home/ EU and International students.In order to attract high calibre students and encourage them to undertake postgraduate study we intend to offer this scholarship as a discount of 15% off the tuition fees for anyone who has obtained a first class undergraduate degree from a UK University, either in the UK or abroad.Additionally Brunel has always offered a reduction in PG tuition fees for Brunel alumni and Brunel students who take up postgraduate education could receive the '15% graduate discount'.These two discounts are not exclusive and therefore a Brunel alumnus who has a first class undergraduate degree can receive both.There are exclusions to this offer.
