This exciting new programme explores developments in cloud based and mobile commerce that are changing the way businesses will operate in the future. The course draws together technology and business perspectives in order to understand the implications for social-media enabled business.
We emphasise the business and commercial implications of disruptive technologies on this course, therefore, our applicants are normally expected to have a Business, Management, Economics or other closely related first degree, or have extensive business and management experience. The course should also appeal to candidates with professional experience in IT management, as well as those with an MBA wishing to expand their understanding of technology management and consultancy.
This course helps students prepare for a career in business and management within and beyond the IT sector by gaining technical skills and an appreciation of the crucial role social web technologies play in today’s organisations and their ability to transform business processes.
The MSc in Business Intelligence and Social Media provides students with sound knowledge and understanding of new-media related business practices and to provide them with transferable skills designed to meet the challenges of employment within the global economy. The course helps students understand the importance of information and mass communications technologies to the operations of modern businesses of all kinds.Students are encouraged to reflect on the relevance of concepts to business and apply their newly developed skills in advance studies or professional practice. Successful graduates of the course progress to leadership and decision making roles in industrial organisations or develop successful consultancy and advisory businesses of their own.

Academics who teach on this exciting programme are part of the Information Systems Evaluation Group which is a research centre of excellence that supports a number of Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) funded networks and projects. This group is housed in the Brunel Business School in collaboration with the excellent-rated (RAE score 5) School of Information Systems, Computing and Mathematics. ISEing is the first multi-disciplinary research group to receive government funding in the areas of Information Systems Evaluation, Enterprise Integration and eGovernment.
Brunel University International Scholarships
The Brunel International Scholarship Programme is an annual award run by the Brunel International office that is open to all international students. Its goal is to provide financial support to exceptional students. Scholarship holders will go on to represent Brunel as ambassadors throughout their time at the University.For 2013/14 we are please to be able to offer 30 awards, which will comprise of a 15% discount off the cost of tuition fees. These awards are open to Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Research students who are classed as overseas for fee purposes.

In order to apply for the Brunel International scholarships, applicants must:1.Have applied for a full time course for the 2013/14 academic year at Brunel University and been given an applicant number. 2.Be classed as an international fee paying applicant (students from the EU are not eligible) 3.Not be a current Brunel student, unless they are applying for a course of a higher level (for example you are a final year undergraduate and are applying for a Postgraduate Course)
Applications can be made from January 2013 and should be made electronically via the Brunel International website.
The Academic Excellence Scholarships will be awarded in August for courses starting in September and in December for courses starting in January to all students meeting the eligibility criteria. The University will offer a discount of 15% off the fees for anyone who has obtained a first class undergraduate degree from a UK University, either in the UK or abroad. This equates to an average as follows:Home students discount for MSc programmes – £1200 International students discount for MSc programmes – £2025 MBA discount (Home and International) – £2775

The Scholarships are automatic as long as the student meets the entry criteria.
Applicants should normally have at least an upper second class degree (2.1) or equivalent in a business-related discipline with evidence of numeracy skills. Applicants with a lower second class degree (2.2) may be considered, providing they can show evidence of significant relevant (eg 2 years’ minimum work) experience.
