Economics, Accounting and Finance MSc

Course Description

This programme aims to take graduate students with only limited knowledge of economics, accounting and/or finance and provide them with an understanding of the key concepts and current issues in the field.

You will read and assess the current literature in the main fields of economics, accounting and finance and form independent, informed judgements about it. You will then plan and embark on a programme of independent research (under appropriate supervision), undertaking a thorough literature review in a prescribed topic area or analysing economic, accounting or financial data and relating the results to theory.

Finance options - select one from:
-Advanced Financial Reporting
-Corporate Finance
-Financial Markets and Investment
-International Finance

Unit availability is subject to staffing and timetable constraints. Please note: the number of available places on some units may be capped.

The final part of the MSc is a project-based dissertation of up to 15,000 words. A choice of dissertation subject areas is provided and you choose your specific topic from one of these broader areas. Many of the dissertations are literature-based and you will be expected to acquire and use literature search skills for a range of electronic and traditional sources.


The programme will provide you with a sound basis for a future career in a wide range of fields, including economics, accounting, finance, public service and teaching. You will also develop a range of transferable skills that will be valuable for employment in any sector.

Entry Requirements

A first or good upper second-class honours degree (or equivalent) that demonstrates mathematical ability.
