Economics and Finance MSc

Course Description

This programme is designed particularly for students who have an appropriate degree and want to expand their career options by building their expertise in finance. You will develop your understanding of economic theory and econometrics, including recent advances in the subject, and acquire a solid understanding of finance theory and its applications to financial markets and corporate finance.

Programme structure

Core units
-Asset Pricing

Optional units - You must complete four optional units, of which at least three must be selected from:
-Advanced Corporate Finance
-Behavioural Finance
-Credit Risk
-Investment Management
-Quantitative Finance

The final unit can be taken from the following list:
-Economics of Education
-Further Microeconomics
-Health Economics
-Labour Economics
-Personnel Economics
-Policy Experiments
-Public Organisation

Unit availability is subject to staffing and timetable constraints. Please note: the number of available places on some units may be capped.

The final part of the MSc is a project-based dissertation of up to 15,000 words.


The programme provides excellent preparation for careers in investment management, financial research, trading, consulting and corporate finance, and for further academic study in finance.

Entry Requirements

A first or good upper second-class honours degree (or equivalent qualification) in economics, finance, mathematics or similar discipline.
