Data Analytics MSc

Course Description

This innovative masters course has been specifically designed in close consultation with industry partners so that students graduate with a broad and much in demand skill set.

Data analysis skills are developed in tandem with experience of managing data analysis projects end-to-end, proposing sound business cases and strategies for analysis, performing and overseeing analyses as well as critically appraising and presenting results to others.

Teaching is informed by cutting-edge business developments as well as staff research. A range of industry partners provide hands-on experience.

The course covers three main areas:
- Data Management: Structuring and manipulating data for analysis purposes.
- Data Interpretation: Statistical and other analyses using advanced features of industry-standard software such as SAS and R to draw meaningful inferences from varied data sets.
- Strategy and Analytics Project Management: The important business-related and financial aspects of data analytics projects.

Multivariate Analysis and Statistical Modelling
Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery in Data
Stochastic Methods and Forecasting
Financial Mathematics and Project Valuation


Graduates can choose to move into a variety of roles as a wide range of organisations draw on data analytics specialists to help produce valuable information for decision-making. Examples include commodity price forecasting, financial analysis and customer intelligence.
