Arts and Cultural Research MRes


Course Description

This Arts and Cultural Research MRes is designed to provide you with a foundation for a career in research in industry, the public sector or in academic life. It will develop the skills, critical perspectives and methodologies you need to undertake research in the broad arena of arts and culture.

You will take two subject-based options from the fields of art, design, humanities or sport and leisure cultures, alongside two modules that will develop your understanding of the value and meaning of research, the validity and reliability of methods, the availability of cultural sources and the value of practice-based research.

Entry Requirements

Normally a good honours degree in a relevant subject, or equivalent vocational experience and able to demonstrate the ability to work at masters level. Also able to demonstrate an aptitude for research in the arena of arts and culture. Likely to have acquired the following knowledge and training: - training in a relevant arts and cultural studies discipline; - where appropriate, a working knowledge of the language(s) of the area in question; - a background in the historical, cultural and institutional context of the area to be studied; - some evidence of engagement with research through undergraduate modules.
