Regeneration Project Management (PG Cert)


Course Description

Bradford is experiencing a major transformation through the regeneration developments of the city. The groundbreaking DREAMS project gives you the means to be part of these changes that will create a vibrant new city.

The course equips you with the academic knowledge and valuable work experience gained during a 10 week work placement with a local regeneration company; giving you a valuable insight into the working practices of regeneration agencies to put you in the best position for employment in this dynamic field.

What the programme offers:

- £100 bursary for 10 weeks

- Participation in the post Graduate Certificate in Regeneration Project Management

Details of the course
The programme has been specifically designed to provide a relevant knowledge base and skills training for graduates (or equivalent) that will lead to the recruitment of suitably trained regeneration project managers for regeneration and economic development initiatives.

This programme of study is funded by a grant from Yorkshire Forward. This grant has allowed a total of thirty successful applicants to receive a training allowance of £100 per week for a 12 week period - totalling £1200 per student. During this 12 week period you will undertake study of the first two modules and a Work Placement.

Aims
The main aims of this programme are to enable you to develop and enhance skills, experience and understanding in regeneration project management. You will produce work based projects based upon a particular regeneration scheme you are involved in, and the programme will provide you with the opportunity to demonstrate theoretical understanding, critical awareness and personal reflection on regeneration project management.

The Postgraduate Certificate enables you to focus upon areas of specialisation within regeneration and workplace practice.

This programme will:
- Enable you to develop a high level of reflective understanding and critical appreciation of regeneration policy and development within a framework of advanced theory in public policy and community analysis, urban and community regeneration and development, and project management.
- Provide a flexible programme of study that reflects and utilises areas of tutor and practitioner experience and expertise.
- Encourage the development of independent learning skills through the provision of a supportive and structured learning environment which promotes sharing of expertise and learning among students.
- Develop high-level subject knowledge and understanding which will benefit your work in the area of regeneration management.
- Prepare you with project management skills for situations requiring you to influence and take responsibility / accountability for a particular regeneration project.
- Develop high level critical and analytical problem-solving skills which will assist you in addressing complex and key issues within placement organisations.

Curriculum
The course is offered over a 12 week period - which includes a ten week placement at a regeneration agency - followed by a 20 credit module. The 12 week period is made up of two modules - 'Regeneration Project Management' and the 'Work Placement', followed by the 20 credit module 'New Developments in Housing and Neighbourhood Renewal' which will provide an appropriate learning framework for developing advanced specialist and professional skills.

- New Developments in Housing and Neighbourhood Renewal (Core module, 20 credits. Those students who have already undertaken this module will undertake a guided independent study to the value of 20 credits at level 3 or above. The topic will be by negotiation between course leader and student.)
- Guided Independent Study (Core modules, 20 credits)

Admission Requirements

Applicants must have:

- first degree of 2.2 and above from an approved University or an equivalent institution, or
- a professional qualification, and evidence of experience in a field allied to regeneration
