This programme aims to provide an opportunity for graduates in any programme with a substantial mathematics element to fill in the gaps in their mathematical background and thus enable them to study an MSc or MRes programme, either organised by the School of Mathematics or by another School with a contribution from the School of Mathematics. Based on individual assessments of the candidates a bespoke programme will be compiled for them from the list of optional modules.
For each candidate a programme of six courses will be compiled from courses from the School's undergraduate programme according to the individual student needs. Lectures for each module will be delivered over the Autumn and Spring terms. The following list of optional modules is typical of the large array of courses available. Each module listed below comprises a total of 20 credits and students need to obtain 120 credits in total.
Algebra & Combinatorics Impact of Mathematics Mechanics Mathematical Modelling & Problem Solving Probability & Statistics Real Analysis & the Calculus Vectors, Geometry & Linear Algebra Real & Complex Variable Theory Polynomials and Rings & Metric Spaces Symmetry and Groups Analytical Techniques Linear Algebra & Programming Applied Mathematics II Statistics II Linear Programming
Each module will be taught through a mixture of lectures, self study and supporting classes.
This programme is designed to equip graduates with the mathematical skills required for subsequent study of the various MSc programmes organised by the School of Mathematics or by another School with a contribution from the School of Mathematics.
Each of these MSc programmes will open up a range of careers opportunities for successful graduates; see the individual programme sites for further details.
