This innovative, flexible and dynamic postgraduate course has been designed specifically for dental care professionals, working in a range of dental care contexts. It is designed based on the success of our PgCert Dental Law and Ethics, the only course of its kind in the UK. The course provides unique opportunities to critically examine dental care and practice from relevant ethical, legal and professional standpoints. It has a strongly applied focus together with solid theory and concepts, allowing you to explore how legal and ethical knowledge can be put to use in the dental context.
This part-time course combines study days, with supported, on-line learning and self-directed study. At the PgCert stage, the focus is on the application of law and ethics in dental practice and patient care. At the PgDip stage, the emphasis will be on the foundation of law and ethics and their relationship, covering different legal and ethical concepts and theories in equal measure. You will also look at different ways in which you can lead and develop the dental team and develop and manage your organisation. In the final stage of the course, you have the opportunity to undertake a year- long supervised research project in an area of interest in relation to legal and ethical issues impacting upon dental practice.
You will have an opportunity to tailor assessment tasks in ways that allow you to deal with real issues you encountered in your professional lives. Tutor support for assessment activities is provided.

Career/Further study opportunities
It is anticipated that students will continue to work within their place of current employment. Some students may move on to dento-legal advisory roles or positions with dental defence organisation.
