The University of Amsterdam has been granting an LL.M for this subject area since the early 1990's. The nature of the study lends itself to connections with international economics and politics. International investment law is a growing subject area in the curriculum. Here we examine the treaty frameworks that govern international investments and the disputes that arise between investors and states.'The Master's programme in International and European Law deals with two aspects of international economic law. The first is the law of the World Trade Organization and its dispute settlement system as it relates to governmental trade barriers, protectionism and trade-related regulations. Secondly, the track examines international investment law in the use of bilateral investment agreements and the role of investment arbitration in protecting foreign investors. The academic staff of the track in International Trade and Investment Law are highly qualified international and European lawyers.
Academic background in law: * An academic level comparable with a Dutch Bachelor of laws diploma. * Basic knowledge of European law is required. The Amsterdam Law School offers a deficiency course in European Union Law. This course is provided by the Law School in September. Credits earned in this courses are not included in the required 60 ECTS credits.English language proficiency
