Strategic Management of Projects - MSc/PGDip/PGCert

Course Description

For professionals who aspire to lead in the management of projects and programmes, this intensive executive development MSc prepares you for project executive roles in shaping and delivering corporate and project strategy.

Degree information

The programme helps you develop a critical understanding of the challenges that project executives face in designing and implementing strategy, explores how the Management of Projects approach leads to improved value-creation and effective outcomes, and provides tailored professional advice that focuses on your career development. You will learn how to make difficult decisions.

Students undertake modules to the value of 180 credits.

The programme consists of ten taught modules, with assessment on eight (120 credits) and a research report (60 credits).

A Postgraduate Diploma consists of ten taught modules, with assessment on eight (120 credits). It is available on a full-time basis over nine months or on a modular/flexible basis over 1-5 years. A Postgraduate Certificate consists of a minimum of four taught modules (60 credits). No optional modules are available for this programme.

-Project Lifecycle: The Project Operational Legacy

All MSc students submit a 10,000-word report on a topic related to the main themes of the programme. The topic should help enhance your career development and the knowledge that is most relevant in your field.

Teaching and learning
The programme is delivered through a combination of case-based learning, interviews, peer-based learning and lectures and workshops from leading practitioners, policymakers, entrepreneurs and academics. Students are required to have sufficient breadth and depth of knowledge to challenge and inform others. Assessment is primarily through written coursework and the research report.

You will be required to engage with academics, fellow classmates, alumni and guest speakers significantly and be able to explore the areas that are of interest to your career and professional development plans specifically.

As part of the 10,000-word report you will conduct primary reserach and will need to abide by the UCL Research Ethics Framework.

In the class you will find yourself with leading experts, academics and practitioners. This is an opportunity for you to engage their interest and work with them in significant projects. - The value of the bursary is £15,000. The payment is to be applied to tuition fees in the first instance, with any remainder being paid to the successful applicant towards maintenance in termly instalments.
- The bursary is tenable for one year only.
- The bursary may not be held alongside other tuition fee only awards.

- prospective full-time UK Master's students who are undertaking a one-year programme of study in the Faculties of the Built Environment, Engineering Sciences or Mathematical & Physical Sciences (BEAMS) in 2015/16

Entry Requirements

Evidence of achievement and/or impact in your industry (e.g. promotion, project scope, professional recognition, etc.) A good undergraduate degree or equivalent professional qualification. Candidates with significant relevant experience and impact in their industry may be exempted from this requirement. A minimum of two years experience in project-based work or project-based organisation.
