The Graduate Diploma in Palliative Care is aimed at advancing the health care professionals repertoire of knowledge and skills for professional practice in the care of persons with life limiting illness. The Graduate Diploma in Palliative Care enables students to gain a broad and deep understanding of subjects relevant to caring for patients with life limiting illness who require impeccable assessment and management of complex symptoms. Particular emphasis is placed on recent national and international research findings and/or evidence-based guidelines and recommendations aimed at ensuring optimal outcomes for patients with cancer. Primary degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline. Nurses must be registered on the live register maintained by An Bord Altranais Other health care professional must be registered with a recognised professional body Nurses must have exposure to a palliative care environment for the duration of the course Clinicians must have exposure to a palliative care environment for the duration of the course for a minimum of 75 hours per month. Non-clinicians need to demonstrate the application of their discipline to palliative care practice
