The Professional Certificate in Children’s Cancer Nursing is aimed at advancing the registered nurse’s repertoire of knowledge and skills for professional practice in the care of children with cancer. This Certificate is particularly aimed at preparing the nurse to assume the role of cancer nurse specialist. Particular emphasis is placed on recent national and international research findings and/or evidence-based guidelines and recommendations aimed at ensuring optimal outcomes for children with cancer. Hold a primary degree in Nursing or equivalent. Be entered onto the appropriate division of the Nurses Register maintained by An Bord Altranais (be registered as an RCN) Hold a Graduate Diploma in another specialist area of nursing or have obtained 30 ECT (credits) at Level 9. Have at least one year’s experience in children’s cancer nursing at time of attending the first day of class in Semester 2. Candidates must be employed in a children’s oncology unit or related cancer care setting prior to commencing the course and for the duration of the course.
