Secondary Teaching


Course Description

This course will prepare you for life as a secondary teacher, with the skills and knowledge to influence the lives of the young people you teach.

The course is offered in partnership between Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Moray and Orkney councils, each working with the university through their local college.

The PGDE (Secondary) consists of 18 weeks study at the university plus 19 weeks in professional practice in schools.

For 2016 entry places are available in the following subjects

Lews Castle College: Computing, Chemistry with Science, Maths, Physics with Science and Technological Education
Moray College: Home Economics, Physics with Science and Technological Education
Orkney College: Physics with Science and Technological Education

Carnegie Cameron Taught Postgraduate Bursaries - 4 Awards

Applicants should already have been offered a place at the University of the Highlands and Islands and should have firmly accepted that offer. Applicants who do not hold an offer of admission by the deadline will not be considered for the award.Criteria
The bursary will be awarded on the basis of academic merit with due consideration also being given to financial circumstances.Selection Procedure
A Selection Committee will meet in June 2016 to review the applications. All applicants will be notified of the outcome by the end of June.

Eligibility

The bursaries will be awarded to applicants who are accepted for admission on either a one year full-time or two year part-time basis for a taught postgraduate programme of study at the University of the Highlands and Islands. To be eligible, applicants must;Be Scottish by birth OR
Be of Scottish extraction (have at least one parent born in Scotland) OR
Have received three full years of secondary, further and/or higher education in Scotland

Application Procedure

A completed application form, together with the correct supporting documentation as outlined in Section D of the form, should be received by Michaela Gilmore by the closing date of 31st May 2016 in order to be considered for the award.

University of the Highlands and Islands Alumni Discount - No. of awards TBC

A 10% discount in tuition fee is available to degree graduates from the University of the Highlands and Islands on any of our taught postgraduate courses. The alumni discount applies only to the tuition fee element and does not apply to any additional costs which may be required to complete the course. The discount cannot be applied retrospectively and must be requested before or at the time of paying the first year fee.The alumni discount is not available in conjunction with any bursary or scholarship or combinable with any discounts from the university.

Eligibility

Degree graduates from the University of the Highlands and Islands are eligible for 10% discount on the relevant tuition fee for any of our taught postgraduate courses.

A relevant degree at undergraduate level or above, preference will be given to those possessing a degree at honours level, though consideration will also be given to those holding ordinary degrees.
