In Ireland, 44,000 people have a dementia diagnosis. Globally, the prevalence of dementia is expected to double within the next 20 years.
It is against this backdrop that the online interdisciplinary Postgraduate Certificate in Dementia has been developed to prepare students in the delivery of high-quality support and care to dementia sufferers. Graduates of this programme will promote excellent practice in the care of dementia sufferers, allowing them to live with dignity.
The online programme has been designed to promote collaboration between various disciplines working with dementia sufferers, and students will develop an interdisciplinary understanding of the role nursing, medicine, occupational therapy, and social work plays in dementia care. Modules on Ways of Understanding Dementia, Critical Issues in Assessment and Care Planning and Enhancing the Experience of Living with Dementia will be taught throughout the course of the year.
