The MBA (International) is for those students who wish to develop their strengths and career opportunities in an international context. Consequently, to provide exposure to international business, this award includes a mandatory one-week overseas residential (study trip), in addition to the one week UK residential (off-campus trip). The cost associated with these two study trips are covered by the course fees. In recent years, the overseas residential has been to Prague, Czech Republic, to explore the turbulent business environment with the full spectrum of global business. You will experience a challenging and stimulating intensive course in strategic management, with an international perspective, to enhance your personal and career development.
To facilitate this you will use, share and reflect upon your experiences alongside others in your Learning Team. You will be allocated to your multi-cultural 'Learning Team' during induction. A few Learning Teams are combined to form tutorial groups, with each having their own personal tutor.
The MBA (International) aims to provide you with a thorough grounding in International Management via integrating the main functional areas of business through the application of global strategic management. Additionally, business skills of leadership, communication, teamwork and decision-making are the key focus of the compulsory one-week UK residential (off-campus study trip) - costs are covered by course fees. This is in addition to the overseas study trip.
The MBA International award has therefore been designed to encompass three key themes:
The performing organisation
Contemporary and global strategic challenges
Research in action
Thus in the first teaching block you will study aspects of Human Resources, Marketing Innovations, Risk and Financial Analysis and Business Management Research. These core modules are then followed in the second teaching block by their integration through the application of Global Strategic Management principles and Change Leadership. There is also the opportunity to choose one international module of your choice such as: HRM in a Global Context, International Finance, International Supply Chain Management or International Marketing. In the final block, you will be able to develop and investigate a special area of knowledge within the international strategic field of your choice for the Masters Dissertation.
Additionally the ‘soft’ business skills of leadership, communication, teamwork and decision-making are the key focus of the compulsory residential (off-campus study trip). As well as, your professional development is supported by the breadth of experience reflected within the cohort of your fellow students to support and encourage personal growth and capability by widening your professional horizons. This is achieved through interactive class discussions, group work and also attending two residential events (an off-campus study trip in the UK and a one-week overseas study trip).
The first teaching block covers modules in:
The Human Capital Dimension
Risk and Financial Analysis
Business Management Research
The second teaching block covers modules in:
Global Strategic Management
An international option, for example, International Marketing, International Finance
International Consultancy in Action (the overseas study trip)
These are followed by the Dissertation with an international strategic management focus.
