Business Intelligence and Business Analytics


Course Description

The Master's degree programme in Business Intelligence and Business Analytics covers both organisational knowledge and technological know-how. Besides more advanced knowledge of administration systems, students also gain a thorough insight into management concepts and supporting information technologies that ensure and improve companies' business efficiency. The special focus here is on Corporate Performance Management (CPM), which uses Business Intelligence (BI) for support in all corporate areas.

The degree programme also looks at quantitative methods and analytical applications with the aim of using the flood of business data profitably.

A compulsory semester abroad at Universidad Tecnológica Nacional Mendoza Argentina (http://www.frm.utn.edu.ar/) helps raise students' awareness of international specifics. The entire course is taught in Englisch.

Graduates of the Master's degree programme in Business Intelligence and Business Analytics can support companies in choosing, implementing, applying and maintaining Business Intelligence solutions. They act as the interface between a company's management and the IT department, providing coordination between these vital corporate organisations.

Typical working areas and job opportunities are:

As "Data Scientist", the graduates will function as the intersection between IT and department as well as the company management. They will build analytical models for economic tasks (e.g. in the area of Data Mining).
As "BI Specialist", the graduates will work in the IT department to support integrated Data Warehouses. Out of the variety of data, they are able to extract the data needed for specific economic tasks.
As "Business Analyst", the graduates will analyze the company processes and develop company-wide BI-strategies for their support.
Additionally, extensive knowledge in IT, data analysis and management make the graduates to attractive candidates for consulting agencies.

The obtained master's degree (M.Sc.) will qualify the graduates according to international standards also for obtaining a Ph.D. in the field of Information systems Research (ISR), e.g. in cooperation with Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences or Kingston University.

Curriculum

During the first semester at the Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (http://www.hs-neu-ulm.de), the Master's degree programme in Business Intelligence und Business Analytics provides students with broad-ranging knowledge of corporate strategies, Business Intelligence and Information Systems.

During the second semester at Universidad Tecnológica Nacional Mendoza in Argentina students learn quantitative methods, analytical applications, key aspects of communication management and the culture and history of the partner country.

At the start of the third semester, students carry out a research project that will help them write their thesis during the same semester.

Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences

The Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) provides Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes in business management. Entry Requirements

Bachelor degree with 210 ECTS, grade of 2.3 or higher in final examinations, proven basic knowledge of IT management and IT worth at least 30 ECTS during the Bachelor's degree programme, very proficient English: level B2, TOEFL certificate or equivalent, good standard of German for non-native speakers (level B1), proof of which must be shown at enrollment
