Occupational Therapy

Course Description

Master of Science with a Major in Occupational Therapy, 60 credits

The master programme Occupational Therapy is a part-time Web based distance programme, taught completely online.

Information

The master programme Occupational Therapy is a part-time Web based distance programme, taught completely online.

Occupational therapy is a client-centred health profession concerned with promoting health and well being through occupation. In occupational therapy, occupations refer to the everyday activities. Occupations include things people need to, want to and are expected to do. The primary goal of occupational therapy is to enable people to participate in the activities of everyday life. Occupational therapists achieve this outcome by working with people and communities to enhance their ability to engage in the occupations they want to, need to, or are expected to do, or by modifying the occupation or the environment to better support their occupational engagement. (defintion according to World federation of Occuational Therapists 2012)

The programme will help students expand their knowledge and develop professionally. Since it’s a part-time programme you will be able to work while you study and keep close contact with your clinical practice. This is an important aspect and students are expected, whether they have been working before starting their master programme or not, to be closely connected to the clinical reality.

The programme is quite flexible and the courses can be shaped differently depending on the student. You can choose to have a broader focus on occupational therapy at large, or to narrow your focus down to your particular area of interest.

Since the programme is web based there are no scheduled lectures on campus. This means that you can take part in the programme without having to leave your family or country.

The modules are distributed via Internet and the web platform Ping Pong. Internet access with a bandwidth sufficient for watching streaming video is required (recommended minimum download speed 1 Mbps). The programme is conducted and examined in English. Swedish-speaking students will be allowed to hand in their examinations in Swedish.
