Course Description

This course will appeal to both UK and International students wishing to work in the social care sector and gain an understanding of the core concepts in social and behavioural sciences and contemporary social care practice.

This course emphasises the social and behavioural science as central to understanding people in our societies in context, alongside more specific units of study that explore psychosocial perspectives across the life-course, use of self and other; theory and practice, law and social policy and personal and professional development in preparation for your practice placement opportunities. Ethics and values will be a central theme to your preparation for practice and you will address the dilemmas and tensions of working in complex, uncertain human situations.

You will have the opportunity to undertake two practice placements, totalling 40 days of social care practice in professional social care settings with local partner agencies. Students’ practice learning is formally assessed and credited as part of the course.

This programme offers the opportunity to study in a high-profile and nationally recognised department and benefit from direct access to research active and internationally linked academic staff.

BU Sport Scholarship - 20+ Awards

For courses starting in September 2017 or January 2018.The BU Sport Scholarship is available to high level sporting athletes coming to study at either undergraduate or postgraduate level at BU. The scholarship is designed to provide you with the funding you need to develop your sporting abilities and take them to the next level.You can apply for up to £5,000 of funding and put this money towards coaching, equipment, competition entry fees, travel expenses or/or support services.You must demonstrate excellence in your chosen sport, and be part of a Regional, National and/or International squad and compete at that level. Athletes receiving a scholarship will ideally represent BU in the BUCS programme (League and Individual), as well as themselves and/or their club at regional, national or international level. Individual athletes will also need to be competitive with top performers within the BUCS programme.

£500 to £5,000

Eligibility

You must be a high performing sportsperson and have the desire to continue to develop in the sporting arena, as well as academically.

BU Music Scholarships - 15 Awards

For courses starting in September 2017 or January 2018 entry.If you’re passionate about music and want to continue to develop your talents while you’re studying for your degree, our BU Music scholarships are here to support you. Some of the money you’re awarded will go towards regular music lessons for your main instrument or voice with one of the university’s tutors, but you can use the remainder to see your favourite artists in concert, buy new music for your collection or even to pick up a new outfit to wear on stage - whatever fuels your musical passion.There are two types of music scholarships available - major award and minor award.

£1,150 (major award) or £450 (minor award)

Eligibility

To apply for one of these awards, you must be able to demonstrate that you are a talented musician or vocalist and that you have been involved in ensemble activity

Academic Scholarship - 20+ Awards

For courses starting in September 2017 or January 2018.The Academic Scholarship recognises outstanding academic achievement among our postgraduate applicants. To qualify for this award, you need to demonstrate an excellent academic profile that is relevant to your course.If you are enrolling on any full-time taught postgraduate course at BU (including CPE, LPC and PG Dip Legal Practice), or a Master’s by Research, you will automatically be awarded the scholarship, provided that you meet the above requirements. The scholarship is paid in the form of a reduction to your tuition fees.

Eligibility

As a minimum, you need an upper second-class honours (2i) from a Bachelor’s degree (or an overseas equivalent), or CPE with a merit profile
Any UK or EU student applying for a full-time taught postgraduate degree at BU
You cannot receive this scholarship if you are applying for a Postgraduate Diploma or distance learning course
You cannot receive this scholarship if you are applying for certain courses taught by the Faculty of Health & Social Sciences. Eligible students on MSc Public Health, MA Social Care, MA Social Work and MSc Nutrition & Behaviour will receive the award.
You cannot be in receipt of any other scholarships.
