MSc Events Management

Course Description

Events occur in many aspects of our professional and personal lives, such as conferences, exhibitions, product launches, corporate functions, weddings, sport events, political events, community events and festivals. The events field is one that can be fast paced yet rewarding and satisfying.

What will you study?

This course will provide you with the opportunity to develop skills essential for working in the events sector, using theories and processes of project and operational management. You will learn about the entire event management cycle, including planning, design, implementation and evaluation of a variety of events. As an academically driven course, you will learn to critically evaluate a range of theories and models relevant to events management. The practical element of this course focuses on the application of theories and models to event examples, including the organisation of your own live event, as part of a group.

The course has strong links with industry through applied case studies and practitioners’ guest lectures. Read more about our guest lectures in our industry links section.

A unique learning experience

The make-up of the course is truly international, giving you an interesting opportunity to mix with a diverse range of nationalities, allowing you to increase your intercultural competence – vital preparation for working in a mixed-nationality workforce or dealing with a mixed-nationality clientele.

You will receive practical and specific training delivered by research-active and industry-experienced staff. The course will help you become knowledgeable about diversity, aware of cultural differences associated with managerial work and able to develop your aptitude for leadership within the Events Management sector.

Placement

You will be given the opportunity to undertake a placement or an option which directly provides insight into the operation or management of event marketing. The placement will take place after the taught elements of the course are complete.
