The Sheffield Hallam MBA is designed to give you the skills, knowledge and experience to advance your career into senior management. Our MBA is tailored around you and your individual development needs. Personalised coaching ensures that you graduate with the skills and confidence to become an agile and resilient business leader of the future.
Your personal development is underpinned by academic and practical experience, which enables you to apply your learning and demonstrate your capability for senior management.
Emphasis is given to the real-world tools and knowledge used to overcome the complex strategic and operational challenges faced in our global economy. This real-world focus gives you the ability and confidence to create innovative solutions to the challenges you'll face now and in the future.
To be a successful business leader, you need to understand, implement and integrate the current fundamental concepts of business and have insights from differing professional perspectives. You gain this knowledge on this course by studying core MBA subjects within four integrated core modules. Completing an integrated module means that instead of studying a topic such as finance or globalisation in isolation, you study finance together with globalisation, marketing and decision making. Our approach replicates the real world where strategic decisions will span multiple business areas, providing you with a richer and more realistic learning experience.
The integrated core modules are complemented by further options that enable you to tailor your learning to your career goals, and a consultancy project that involves investigating a real issue within an organisation.
As you progress through the course, you apply your learning by problem-solving real or simulated case studies. This enables you to practice and assess the impact of decision making, identifying and dealing with links and tensions between different business areas. You enhance your leadership skills by encountering and managing these varying, often competing, perspectives on management issues.
During the course you
-Build your skills in coaching, presenting, negotiation and influencing others.
-Create portfolios of work so you can evidence your learning and practical experience.
-Attend guest lectures from leading industry experts who provide unique insights into business and management.
-Develop shared learning, business contacts and networking opportunities through your placement experiences, peers, teaching staff and industry experts.

Critical self-awareness and tailored coaching
At the beginning of the course, you take part in a two-day residential to introduce you to the competencies needed to complete the MBA. You undergo psychometric and emotional capital testing to increase your critical self-awareness, and to better understand your skills and identify areas for development. You then work with an expert mentor to design a personal development programme. Your mentor also guides your progress, helping to ensure you gain the maximum benefit from the MBA and that you achieve your leadership goals.
Practical and project management experience
You gain essential practical and project management experience during a two week work-based consultancy project. This enables you to consolidate all of your learning and put it into practice by completing a real or simulated project for an organisation in the UK. Towards the end of the course, you can also choose to complete an industry placement lasting up to 12 months. We can help you to gain a placement by running CV and interview skills workshops, and a member of staff will visit you and provide support during your placement.
Boardroom learning environment
Your learning takes place in our new MBA boardroom facilities, which are designed to replicate real business environments and feature the latest interactive technologies. You also have access to a vast range of learning resources and support services.
This course is accredited by the Chartered Management Institute and successful graduates gain Chartered Manager status (subject to application). To gain Chartered Management status you must also have three years of relevant work experience. The placement year option on this course counts towards the experience requirement. If you only have two years of work experience before beginning the course and do not complete a placement, you will be eligible for Chartered Management status after a further year of work.
