This course will provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary to practice physiotherapy via an accelerated programme which builds on prior learning and experience. It is a two year course with an exciting and varied mix of academic and clinical learning.
Our course is the only Physical Therapy programme outside North America which is accredited by CAPTE. Therefore, each year we welcome a number of students from the United States and Canada as well as students from other countries who wish to practice in the USA to this course.
The MSc Physiotherapy (Pre-Registration) at Robert Gordon University is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).

Applicants from the USA will also be required to demonstrate that they have undertaken all the prerequisite subjects in accordance with recommendations adopted by the Educational Section of the American Physical therapy Association.
MSc Physiotherapy - Applicants from the USA
Applicants from other countries should hold an equivalent award in a relevant subject.
Applicants with a non-science or health related background are welcome to apply, and may be required to complete pre-requisite study in anatomy and physiology prior to commencing their studies on the MSc programme. These applications will be dealt with on an individual basis. All places upon the course are subject to interview.
All international students, for whom English is not their first language, are required to have an IELTS (International English Language Testing System) score of 7.0 or an appropriate equivalent, on application to the course.
Please note, UKVI are currently not accepting TOEFL as proof of English Language for Full Time International Student Visas.
What you will study
There is a firm emphasis on the development of clinical reasoning and practical skills throughout the course.
Academic modules have been developed to allow students to develop strong core assessment and treatments skills and a deeper knowledge of core areas such as exercise prescription and health improvement theory. Integrating the core practice areas of cardiovascular respiratory, neurology and musculoskeletal encourages students to think holistically about their patients to embed this in their practice.

Students who complete their MSc (Pre-registration) Physiotherapy degree at RGU and wish to pursue working within the United States are welcome to apply to upgrade their MSc to a Doctorate of Physiotherapy (DPT).

Applicants typically possess a Bachelors undergraduate degree in a science subject, such as biological, or sports science, and should contain human anatomy and physiology with a 2:1 or above classification, or a minimum GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 Scale, or equivalent. Experience of the research process is also an essential requirement for the course. Relevant work experience in the field of Physiotherapy and healthcare would be desirable.
