Luxury Brand Management - MA

Course Description

The luxury industry has evolved rapidly over the last decade, with brands expanding and consolidating into mature and fast-developing markets. Successful professionals in this field demonstrate the ability to operate in a highly competitive global context. An innovative and creative approach with a strong cultural perspective is also key.

The MA Luxury Brand Management takes a strategic view of the dynamic characteristics and opportunities within the global luxury goods and services industry. It combines academic study with the practicalities of management, with a focus on delivering an exceptional experience for consumers and gaining a global competitive advantage.

Studying in the heart of London, one of the world’s capitals for the luxury industry, you will develop the skills needed to manage leading brands in a highly competitive environment, combining knowledge with an innovative approach and a strong cultural perspective.

The programme is taught by highly qualified academics and experienced industry professionals, and focuses exclusively on luxury, branding and management across the full value chain.

Read about a current MA Luxury Brand Management student's thoughts on contemporary luxury and how this programme is preparing her for a career in the industry here.

Why should I choose this programme?

The luxury industry has doubled in size over the past 10 years, reflecting an increasingly global presence. Traditionally a sector associated with Europe, luxury brands are expanding into the markets of the fast-developing BRIC economies.

You will enjoy a high level of teaching contact and support from lecturers who offer a breadth of expertise and experience across a variety of luxury sectors. You will also benefit from lectures by guest speakers and visits to companies managing luxury brands. High profile speakers in 2016 have included Helen David, Harrods Fashion Director, Matthew Zorpas from The Gentleman Blogger and Valerie Kaminov, CEO of Miller Harris Perfumes.

Through taught classes, hands-on projects and contact with industry experts, you will develop the knowledge, insights and critical skills to make informed judgements about the strategic and tactical business activities of luxury brands.

The programme is kept current by the research, business practice and networks of academic staff, who incorporate the latest industry thinking into teaching and learning. You will be able to apply the knowledge and skills you develop on the programme through a final project – either an academic dissertation, live business project or start-up project.

This degree is recognised by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), providing you with access to CMI resources during your studies, and enabling you to gain CMI membership upon degree completion.

Samia Solh

Most of the luxury programmes I considered in London were very fashion-focused, but Regent’s offered exactly what I was looking for – a luxury management programme which would keep my options open while enhancing my knowledge of the luxury industry.

Studying in such a cosmopolitan city, and in a university where students come from all over the world, I have learnt to adapt to a very multicultural environment. The group work has taught me to cooperate with individuals from different backgrounds and cultures in order to produce a piece of work.

I have also enjoyed the one-on-one time we were granted with our lecturers. Like us, they come from varied backgrounds and have years of experience in different fields within the luxury industry. This meant our lectures were not just based on theoretical ideas but also their personal experiences in the industry, adding considerable value to our learning process.

The assignments on this programme have been quite varied and required different skills to complete. Each one involved extensive research, reading, analysing and summarising information.

The Middle East has been, and continues to be, one of the most fertile grounds for luxury industry players. The Emirates city has become a leading commercial hub for the region, with many international companies choosing to base their Middle Eastern headquarters there, and Dubai Fashion Week and Dubai Art Week creating a worldwide buzz. Karl Lagerfield, Creative Director of Chanel, also held the Chanel annual Cruise Show in Dubai earlier this year.

From a luxury consumer perspective, I believe the Lebanese people are continuing to indulge in luxurious lifestyles despite the recent socio-political and economic difficulties of the country. Investors maintain a positive view of Lebanon as a luxury market – luxury retailer Joseph has just opened its first boutique in Beirut this summer, and multi-brand luxury retailer Le 66 will shortly follow suit.

I feel this programme has prepared me for a career worldwide as well as one in the Middle East. London has a lot to offer in terms of careers in the luxury industry, and I plan on staying here for a little while to gain international work experience, before returning to Lebanon with additional experience and skills to start my own enterprise.
