MSc Advanced Professional Practice

Course Description

The MSc Advanced Professional Practice (Professional Masters) offers a taught programme of study that sets out to nurture emerging and innovative professional practitioners. The course is delivered through five specialist pathways corresponding with the school’s key areas of expertise. The Professional Masters is a rigorous academic programme that places practice at the forefront. Not only does the programme engage with and support practice, but it enables students from differing professional backgrounds to review their own practice and share balanced and critical findings that contribute toward improving the quality and efficiency of health and social care provision.

The overall aim of the MSc in Advanced Professional Practice is to create a conducive learning environment that provides students with:
1. Skills necessary to promote and sustain innovative and emerging practice;
2. Intellectual and transferable skills necessary to function in positions of leadership; and
3. Skills enabling graduates to review and introduce current evidence to practice.

This Masters programme comprises Level 7 modules, which are delivered through a range of blended learning strategies. A substantial proportion of the content is delivered through on-line methods, which supports the philosophy of the programme that it is open to local, national and international applicants that are registered health or social care practitioners and are interested in undertaking postgraduate study. Students complete an agreed range of optional and specialist modules, generating new ideas for improvements in practice. Then, through their dissertation, they have an opportunity to critically review in greater detail innovative or emerging areas of their professional work.
