MA Irish Studies


Course Description

The MA and diploma in Irish Studies are arranged into thematically focused groups of modules/courses to include history and politics, culture, tradition and heritage and language and literature.
A wide variety of modules are available. Current subject areas include the following:

Ireland: History and Politics
History, politics and identity in Ireland.
Ireland: Culture, Tradition and Heritage
Culture, gender, language and power in Ireland.
Ireland: Literature, Language and Art
From modern Irish writing to the study of Gaelic languages.
Ireland: Communities, Identities and Conflict
Community and politics in Northern Ireland.
Ireland: Peoples and Place
Ireland and its prehistory, early Ireland and heritage studies.
Ireland: Religion and Ritual
Historical, sociological and anthropological approaches to religion.

School of History and Anthropology MA Fees Bursaries - 3 Awards

In 2012, the School of History and Anthropology will be offering 3 scholarships for UK/EU candidates for our MA programmes in Irish History, Modern History, Irish Studies, Social Anthropology and Cognition and Culture at Queen's University Belfast. We also have funding for UK/EU PhD applicants.

Value of Scholarship(s)

UK and EU residents are eligible for fees. There is no maintenance.

Eligibility

UK and EU residents are eligible for full fees awards. These awards do not have a maintenance component.

Application Procedure

There is no separate application for funding. You may indicate on your application for MA or PhD that you wish to be considered for funding by responding 'yes' to 'Do you wish to apply for funding' in the Funding section. Applications are made through the University’s Admissions Office using the online application system at:

School of History and Anthropology International Masters Bursaries - 3 Awards

These bursaries will cover 50% of the International Tuition Fees for an MA programme. The holder is responsible for the other 50%. There is no maintenance component with these awards.U.S. citizens are also eligible for Federal Loans to help pay for tuition and living costs for a year in Belfast.

50% of the international fees (£11,266)

Eligibility

They are open to all international (non-UK/EU) applicants with an expected cgpa of 3.3 or above. UK/EU residents are not eligible for this competition.

Mary McNeill Scholarship in Irish Studies - Single Award

A scholarship to the value of £3,000 is available for a well–qualified student, enrolled in the one–year MA degree course in Irish Studies at the Queen’s University of Belfast.

Eligibility

This scholarship is open only to citizens of the USA or Canada, enrolled as overseas students on this course. Students should expect a cgpa of 3.3 or above.
