MSc Medical Electronics and Physics

Course Description

This programme was established in 1968 and has been tremendously successful in producing graduates equipped for careers in the healthcare professions. Designed to bridge the physical and engineering sciences with biomedical science and clinical practice, you will learn to apply the principals of these fields to the practical problems of biomedicine. You will focus on medical electronics, medical physics, physiology, physiological measurement techniques, and the design of instruments and safety of electronic devices. No previous biomedical knowledge is required.

You will broaden your knowledge of both electronic engineering and physics, to encompass the aspects of both disciplines as applied to medicine. You will acquire the medical vocabulary you need to communicate effectively with clinical colleagues. In addition to lectures, you will work on a research project, such as the design and development of a medical instrument, acquiring key skills in research techniques and project management.

Our association with a number of medical electronics and physics departments in local NHS Trusts, as well as Barts and The London School od Medicine and Dentistry, is of great benefit to students. You will be joining a School with well established research groups in Medical Engineering and Biomaterials. On graduation from this programme you should be in a position to make contributions to the advancement of medical science and technology that will genuinely benefit patients.
