MSc Software Engineering


Course Description

This MSc course provides you postgraduate training in software engineering with a focus on dependability, aspects of which include security, specification, risk management, usability and design integrity. You will learn advanced techniques in program design (including software patterns and component technologies) and information handling (structured information, databases). You will develop skills to manage software project risks and learn about tools to support decision-making.

This course provides you the necessary postgraduate training in software engineering with a focus on dependability, aspects of which include security, specification, risk management, usability and design integrity. You will learn advanced techniques in program design (including software patterns and component technologies) and information handling (structured information, databases). You will study key issues of interactive system design, leading to the ability to identify issues and trade-offs in the design of human-computer interaction, and to invent and evaluate alternative solutions to design problems. You will gain knowledge in the mathematical foundations of software and the practical application of these techniques. You will develop skills to manage software project risks and learn about tools to support decision-making. You will also gain essential team and research skills.

The course is intended to enable you to become competitive in the most technically oriented branch of software engineering, leading to positions such as software architect. Successful graduates may also enter into further research study for which the course also provides preparation.

QMUL International Science and Engineering Excellence Awards - 20+ Awards

In recognition of the important investment that overseas postgraduate students are making in their education, Queen Mary is pleased to offer International Science and Engineering Excellence Awards for 2017 entry. These awards are for the value of £5,000 and are designed to reward academic achievement and help attract the brightest and best postgraduate students from overseas.International Science and Engineering Excellence Awards will be deducted directly from tuition fees payable to the College. They apply to all postgraduate taught courses offered by the following Schools:- School of Biological and Chemical Sciences
- School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science
- School of Engineering and Materials Science
- School of Physics and Astronomy
- School of Mathematical Sciences (MSc Network Science only)

Eligibility

You must have achieved a UK First Class Bachelor’s degree or an overseas equivalent.
You must be eligible to pay overseas tuition fees.
This scheme is available only to students who apply for and enrol in an eligible course in the Faculty of Science and Engineering in the 2017/18 academic year.

Application Procedure

There is no need to complete a separate application form to be considered for an International Science and Engineering Excellence Award. Students will be considered for an award on the basis of the information they provide in their online application to Queen Mary. Successful candidates will be informed of their award via email notification from the Science and Engineering Faculty Office.

QMUL-Chevening Scholarships - 20+ Awards

QMUL works closely with the Chevening - the UK government’s international scheme aimed at developing global leaders - to provide a large number of full scholarships for study on our one-year Masters courses.Every year QMUL hosts a large cohort of the 1500 Chevening Scholars who come to study at universities all over the UK. In 2016-17 we have a record of 87 scholars joining QMUL from countries across the globe!Chevening Scholarships are available for students from all nationalities.All Chevening awards cover full overseas tuition fees, as well as providing a stipend for living costs, air-fares, and a variety of other expenses.Chevening Scholars also benefit from a year-long programme of events helping you experience the best of British culture and to make the most of your time in the UK.There are two types of award on offer at QMUL:QMUL-Chevening Scholarships
A large number of these awards will be available across all one-year QMUL masters courses.QMUL-Chevening Partner Awards

Eligibility

- Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country
- Return to your country of citizenship for a minimum of two years after your award has ended
- Have an undergraduate degree that will enable you to gain entry to a postgraduate programme at a UK university. This is typically equivalent to an upper second-class 2:1 honours degree in the UK.
- Have at least two years’ work experience
- Meet the Chevening English language requirement by 13 July 2017

Applications for all scholarships must be made directly to the Chevening: full details on how to apply are available on the Chevening’s webpages.In order to be considered for a QMUL-Chevening Partner Award, candidates are encouraged to place QMUL as their first choice university.The deadline for applications is Tuesday 8 November 12:00 GMT.Candidates should also apply for their chosen Masters programme at QMUL through our online portal in the normal way.Candidates are encouraged to QMUL as early as possible to ensure that their application can be processed in a time to meet the Chevening’s deadline for the confirmation of their unconditional university offer in July 2017.

QMUL HESPAL Scholarships - Single Award

HESPAL aims to help create the next generation of senior academics who can maintain international quality standards at Palestinian universities and to develop renewed, sustainable links between Palestinian and UK universities.The Scheme will upgrade junior academic staff in Palestinian universities through a Masters Scholarship programme.QMUL is offering one HESPAL scholarship for 2017 entry. The QMUL-HESPAL scholarship covers the following:- tuition fees
- pre-departure briefing from the British Council
- arrival allowances
- thesis allowances
- a monthly allowance to cover living expenses.The scholarship does not cover the costs for accompanying family, visa fees, IELTS cost, and Airfare ticket to from the UK.

Eligibility

Applicant must be a resident citizen of Palestinian Territories.
Applicant must be currently employed by the Palestinian university which nominates her/him, which must be one of the participating Palestinian universities listed below.
Applicant will have a Masters degree from a Palestinian university (see footnotes) with a minimum grade of very good (and equivalent to at least a 3.0 Bachelor’s Degree from UK).
Applicant must sign a written undertaking to return to Palestinian university within a time frame agreed with their university, normally one year.
Applicant must have IELTS certification appropriate for course and university
