This course is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Marketing.

On this MSc Marketing course, starting in January, you will develop the knowledge and skills essential for a career in marketing. You will work on live case studies and consultancy projects throughout the course, including a marketing research project for an organisation. Along with the theory, you will gain the practical marketing experience that employers are looking for. Additional workshops further improve your career opportunities, through gaining knowledge from experts and by developing key transferable skills. Lectures, discussions, role-play exercises and seminars are linked with selected case studies and assessments to strengthen your practical analysis and decision-making skills. You will develop your skills in working as part of a team through structured group assignments and online group-based marketing simulation. You will gain practical experience and put your knowledge of marketing approaches and theory into practice for an organisation in a supervised marketing project. This project will be in response to a briefing by a client organisation.

Teaching staff at the Business School are researchers and/or come from an industry background with an in-depth practical experience of business and management issues. Visiting speakers from business, industry, consultancies and research bodies provide further input.

Our Business School Postgraduate Centre at Wheatley Campus has a state-of-the-art lecture theatre, well equipped seminar rooms and a postgraduate lounge and private study area.

The Wheatley Campus library provides specialist business resources including 1,000 sets of UK and overseas companies' annual reports, statistics on all aspects of business and management, postgraduate MA, MBA, MSc and PhD theses in marketing and marketing examination papers.

Research areas covered in the department of Marketing include brand management (including brand equity, branded content, brand personality, political branding, brand mapping and place branding), customer engagement and retention strategies, digital marketing strategies, digital economy and social media.

You must be a new full-time masters student starting your course in September 2011.These awards are open to UK, EU and International students unless otherwise stated. (2 x £2,000 awards are for international students only)You should have, or expect to obtain, a good honours degree or equivalent from a recognised institution of higher education, or have experience which demonstrates appropriate knowledge and skills at honours degree standard.Candidates receiving awards from other sources of funding which cover all their tuition fees will not be eligible for a John Henry Brookes Scholarship; eligibility is not affected by funding covering maintenance costs.

The Simon Williams Scholarship 2011 - 2 Awards

The Simon Williams scholarships have been established to commemorate the contribution to the Business School and the University of Simon Williams, Dean of the Business School from 1999 - 2005. The scholarship awards are £1,000 paid towards the cost of programme fees.Criteria
The award committee has identified several significant qualities associated with Simon which made his contribution so distinctive. A successful candidate will be able to demonstrate potential for achievement under these headings but the boundaries inevitably overlap and the committee will consider applications holistically, rather than expecting candidates to provide equally strong evidence under every heading. Candidates should, however, use the headings to structure the way in which they present their application.
1. Intellect
Academic achievement, both before and during an applicant’s time studying at Brookes, is one way of demonstrating intellectual potential but the committee will also be looking for other factors that indicate, for example, use of an analytical approach to solving practical problems or capacity to think creatively.
2. Industry
Under this heading the committee would expect to see evidence showing a high level of commitment to completing an undertaking, self-motivation and a willingness to work hard over and above general expectations.
3. Integrity
Under this heading the committee would expect to see demonstration of a candidate’s personal values in action – concern for others, understanding of the impact of their own behaviour on the groups to which they belong, high standards, loyalty and friendship.

Final year Oxford Brookes University Business School undergraduate students are eligible to apply.This includes students studying at Nilai College (Malaysia), CCCU (Hong Kong), POU (Poland), IIMT (India) and IBS (Hungary).This scholarship can be held simultaneously with other scholarships and awards.The scholarships will be announced annually.

Entry Requirements

The course attracts students from a wide range of backgrounds, disciplines and nationalities. Applicants are welcome from any academic discipline, as well as those seeking continuing professional development. Admission is normally open to those with a minimum of a good second class honours degree (2:2) (or equivalent overseas degree from a recognised institution) or equivalent professional qualification, or other qualification. Applicants who possess a diploma rather than a good second class honours degree may be eligible for entry provided they have compensatory work experience and can demonstrate career development.
