Our LLM in Oil, Gas and Mining Law builds upon our considerable expertise in this area and has been designed in response to the growing significance of legal issues surrounding the oil, gas and mining industry.
This new course will provide you with a strong analytical understanding of the key legal issues in the area, with a particular focus on the environmental law and investment law aspects of the oil, gas and mining industries.
It also draws on our strengths in international trade and commercial law, which will help you gain an appreciation of the oil, gas and mining industries in their global economic context.
You will complete six taught modules and an independently researched and written dissertation, under the supervision of an expert academic. In addition to four core modules you will also select two option modules from other subject areas.
The curriculum of my chosen LLM programme covers a blend of legal and regulatory frameworks which underpin the oil, gas and mining industry. I believe the knowledge I gain this year will equip me with relevant legal expertise on the environmental and investment aspects of the extractive industry, so I will be able to assist the Malawian government in developing efficient fiscal systems in order to capture the dire needed foreign currency whilst ensuring accountability and transparency.
It has been a valuable learning experience to study in a law school with lecturers who are dedicated to their fields and who are keen to impart their knowledge to students in order for them to apply theory to realistic scenarios.
As a result of my postgraduate study my career plans have changed. I would now like to complete doctoral research upon the completion of my LLM, and after obtaining a PhD, I would like to return to my home country and hold a faculty position in a university in Malawi.
