Caroline Page

521.jpg Caroline wanted a job with professional status and, in particular, to become a Chartered Surveyor specialising in valuation and investment. After completing her undergraduate degree part-time while she was working, she decided to take the plunge into full-time postgraduate study with NTU.

“Nottingham is a fun place to study and NTU has a good reputation with employers judging by how quickly the students on the course got offered jobs.

“The course has provided me with an ideal background for my chosen specialism but also provided me with an insight into other surveying specialisms which I might like to try at some stage in my career. Also, importantly, the course will fulfil the academic requirement for membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, following completion of my Assessment of Professional Competence (APC).

“There are a number of employers who come to the University to do recruitment presentations at the start of the first term. Had I known this before I started the course I would have been far less apprehensive about giving up my job to change career.”

Gareth Owen

523.jpg When Gareth completed his BA (Hons) in History and Economics, he was uncertain where his degree would take him. He had always had an interest in property but, as his undergraduate degree was in a different area, he wasn’t quite sure how to begin his property career…until his dad (a former student of NTU) recommended the MA Property Investment and Management course [now MSc Real Estate].

“I wanted to get into property and a one-year conversion course was the best way to get a qualification and show employers I was seriously interested in the area. My father works in property and he did the equivalent undergraduate degree at NTU, so he recommended the University.

“The course is well organised and the tutors are very good. I would recommend the course because it is good value for money and is well respected within the property industry.”

Lucinda Hancock

524.jpg Lucinda thoroughly enjoyed studying for her undergraduate degree in English but found it quite broad in terms of potential vocational direction. She wanted to take the career path to become a chartered surveyor and the postgraduate options at NTU provided the perfect bridge from her English degree to a new career in property.

“I would recommend the course as it is linked to the construction MA in the initial stages and gives a broad introduction to the property industry, and then lets you specialise later on, depending on which of the four courses you’re enrolled on.

“The department staff are very approachable and the options for feedback and clarification are good. Teaching staff deliver well-structured lectures and the facilities at the University are excellent. The postgraduate study room is a great asset and the central location of the City site is really handy.”
