Richard Davies

"I heard about the course from a colleague and it appealed to me as I wanted to expand my knowledge in the field of Project Management. As a chartered building surveyor, I knew my career would be in construction and I decided to pursue project management.

"As I already had a BSc in Building Surveying, the Masters was the next logical step. It appealed as it did not focus too much on technical detail, but looked at different styles and techniques of managing. It looked at specific areas of Project Management in detail.

"I believe I have learned more about how to better manage different personalities within a project team to get the best out of them. In addition it has added to, and developed, my knowledge in key areas of project management for example, value management, law and project programming. I believe these to be key issues, particularly in the future as clients focus on time, cost and quality.

"I benefited from the value management module as it put this often-controversial topic into perspective and separated out some of the myths from the hard truths. It also armed me with key skills to take into the work arena.

"The University provided the necessary material for each module. I also had access to the library at times when it was needed. This was particularly useful during my dissertation as I was able to use software not available to me at work."
