Student Profile

Liss Cooke

Liss Cooke was named the winner of the 19 - 24 age group for Fashion and Textiles at Nottingham's Young Creative Awards in 2018. Liss submitted a selection of beautiful embroidered and embellished jewellery designs, with one large statement necklace at the heart of the collection.

“After completing my BA in Textile Design, I moved to Nottingham for a graduate placement as an embroidery and embellishment designer at local design studio, Acorn Conceptual Textiles. I completely fell in love with the city of Nottingham and the strong creative vibe it has. I decided to look into pursuing an MA, and it felt natural to explore the options at NTU. I was really impressed by the course and excited to study at a university with such a high reputation within textiles and fashion.

"I really enjoyed the creative freedom of my MA and the fact it has given me the time and resources to really push my work. I have valued the interaction with my tutors and feel that they have really helped me to grow and develop my work into more exciting areas.

"My course at NTU has been brilliant and I have learnt so much. I feel that my skills as an embroiderer have really improved and my selective skills as a designer have become more refined. The most valuable point I have learnt from my course is to be more confident and have more faith in my ability as a textile designer.

"The MA studio is my favourite place in the building. It is flooded with natural light and feels really open. Having my own desk and wall space was something new to me, as we didn’t have this at my previous university. I have really loved having my own dedicated area to work in.”
