This distance learning course was developed in conjunction with the Ministry of Justice, as the first postgraduate qualification designed to unravel the complexities of information rights.
Information Rights has developed as a profession in its own right in recent years, particularly since the introduction of landmark Data Protection, Freedom of Information and Environmental Information legislation. This course is designed to meet the distinct needs of those working in the area, where a detailed knowledge of the relevant legislation and an ability to apply it in practice is essential.
The linked structure of the course gives you maximum flexibility in your studies. The PG Cert is the first stage award; you can either exit at this stage or progress to the PG Dip and LLM.
Ideally suited to practitioners, this course will suit those specifically charged with processing information, and those working in environments where information is held, including central and local government, health, education and commerce. It is open to students who hold an appropriate degree or a comparable professional qualification and those without a degree but who have suitable work experience.
The usual entry requirement for the Certificate stage is one of the following: a degree in law; a degree incorporating law elements or a joint honours degree incorporating law; a non-law degree with appropriate work experience; a comparable professional qualification. Candidates without a degree or equivalent but with suitable work related experience may also exceptionally be considered.
