About this course

Northumbria University is the largest North East provider of CPD in Education, and this course is at the leading edge of adult learning theory and practice.

The Advanced Diploma reflects the national requirements in the sector and the changing face of the literacy classroom. It will give you the opportunity to broaden your career possibilities and enhance your teaching practice in this area.

This is a part-time, in-service course. It’s perfect for currently employed teachers, trainers or tutors working in language and literacy contexts, as it is a requirement that you undertake a minimum of 75 teaching hours.

The Advanced Diploma has been designed to reflect the professional demands upon adult literacy subject and ESOL specialists and the changing contexts in which you work.

Entry Requirements

First degree or equivalent; regular access to a group of learners; the appropriate qualification in your subject area; having access to 75 hours reflective teaching practice for during the year of the programme; the ability to fulfil the academic requirements for the programme, which includes being able to communicate clearly and grammatically in spoken and written English; the ability to demonstrate the appropriate levels of numeracy and ICT; the ability to pass the Entry test to demonstrate your personal literacy skills at L3.
