This programme meets the developmental needs of Mentors, Practice Educator/Teachers and Qualified Teachers within Health and Social Work contexts.
The programme is focused on the development of the individual as a supporter and facilitator of learning and will enable greater flexibility in the participants’ learning journey. Greater cohesiveness in the provision of the programme will also create a forum within which learning and development can be shared amongst learning groups that may act as a community of practice to both explore educational principles and critically consider their efficacy in professional practice.
The programme has three main pathways: 1. Mentor-Educator 2. Practice Teacher-Educator (Postgraduate Certificate level) 3. Qualified Teacher (Postgraduate Diploma and Masters levels)
These pathways are linked so that the learning journey of the individual professional is integrated with that individual’s role and stage of professional development. The programme is validated by the NMC and meets HPC standards for teachers within all allied professions.
Each phase of the programme will normally last for one year. The mentor preparation programme will be conducted within one semester.
University application processes and, where necessary, interviews will enable student and academic staff to assure themselves of the student's ability to progress to level 7 study. If you are a Nurse, Midwife or Specialist Community Practitioner wishing to record the successful completion of the award with the NMC you must have: an entry on the appropriate part(s) of the current NMC register completed a minimum of three years full-time experience (or equivalent part-time experience) in relevant professional practice during the last ten years acquired additional professional knowledge that must be relevant to the intended area of teaching/practice, and at no less than first degree level.
For year one entry participants will normally be expected to have graduate status. In addition, various courses may require additional entry qualifications such as professional registration and relevant career experience. Non standard entry will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Students will need to provide evidence of professional and subject qualifications relevant to the focus of their teaching role. It is anticipated that those students not possessing a Degree in HE, will be able to demonstrate equivalence.
