This practical course caters to those who are passionate about developing a career in surface design, by analysing professional, commercial and cultural dimensions.
Students can enjoy specialist interpretations of art, craft and design, which will strengthen personal creativity, design and style by taking a professional approach to surface design.
Students will benefit from a series of topical lectures which explore major issues linked to surface design, followed by talks from leading industry practitioners.
This course offers the opportuunity for students to develop creative and practical skills which are ideally suited to gaining a career in surface design.
Learning through studio and workshop practice, students will also benefit from our close connections with manufacturers, and get to experiment with a wide range of materials to create new and innovative products.
Modules include: Portfolio 1; Lecture and Seminar programme; Research Strategy; Portfolio 2, Portfolio 3 or Dissertation.
The students' programme includes a mixture of practical projects and written work; students develop a portfolio of work that showcases their abilities and ideas and is executed and managed in a professional manner; at each stage students also write reflective reports that encourage them to develop a critical and contextual framework within which to understand their practice and future career choices; students are assessed using a mixture of tutorial reviews, project work submissions and oral exams.
