Our Planning for Sustainability and Climate Change MSc prepares planners with specialised knowledge in sustainability and climate change issues. It attracts students primarily from science backgrounds.
The course will provide you with the planning knowledge, understanding and viewpoints required for Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) accreditation, plus a specialised understanding of planning for climate change issues.
Modules taught by the School of Architecture Planning and Landscape are complemented by key areas of law and energy in other schools.
Through the course you: develop a systematic understanding of town planning, enabling you to engage critically with current problems and practices in the discipline; use an interdisciplinary approach to understand planning for sustainability, with a focus on planning responses to the issues raised by climate change; develop critical understanding of values, ethics and professionalism in planning and skills in making sound judgements when confronted by complex issues
This course offers a career path for students with first degrees in environment or engineering to move into town planning. There is still need in this area, particularly for planners with the knowledge and skills to act on climate change issues.

A 2:2 honours degree, or international equivalent to a 2:1 honours degree, in a related discipline such as agriculture, environmental sciences, engineering, or social sciences. If your first language is not English you need an overall IELTS score of 6.5 (with at least 6.0 in writing).
