Course Description

Course overview

This Banking and Finance MSc allows you to understand and analyse the role of banking within international financial markets. You will develop an empirical understanding of the behaviour of international financial markets. You will also develop IT and research skills for this highly competitive sector.

The course provides you with the opportunity to understand and critically analyse the: role of banking within international financial markets, operations of commercial and investment banks, management of asset-specific, company and country risk.

Worldwide growth in the financial services sector has furthered the demand for students with specialist skills and competencies in banking and finance. The course is responsive to trends and issues in global financial services industries. It features topics including central, retail and investment banking.

The course builds on Newcastle University Business School's research strengths in finance and economics. The Applied Econometrics and Macroeconomic Analysis and Applications research groups inform our teaching.

This course will suit motivated students who want to pursue careers in: investment banking, financial research and financial trading.

Entry Requirements

A 2:1 honours degree, or an international equivalent.You also need to show a firm grasp of: basic calculus, probability theory, statistical inference.If this is not evident from your transcripts, please use your personal statement to give details of your mathematical knowledge.We will also consider your application on an individual basis if you have a 2:2 honours degree and substantial, relevant, professional experience.You need to meet our Band 6 English Language requirements:Direct Entry:IELTS 6.5 overall (with a minimum of 6.0 in all sub-skills)If you have lower English Language scores, you may be accepted onto a Pre-sessional English Language course
