The Modern Languages MPhil and PhD are research-based programmes. You can specialise in topics in the languages of: Chinese, French, German, Japanese and Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American studies. Specialism is also possible in translating and interpreting.
The Modern Languages MPhil, PhD is offered through the School of Modern Languages. We offer expert supervision in the following areas: Chinese; French; German; Japanese; Spanish, Potuguese and Latin American Studies; Translating and Interpreting.
As a research student you will receive a tailored package of academic and administrative support to ensure you maximise your research and future career. The academic information is in the programme profile and you will be supported by our doctoral training centres, Faculty Training Programme and Research Student Support Team.
A 2:1 honours degree and normally a good master's degree in a subject related to one of the discipline areas covered by the School of Modern Languages. If your first language is not English you need an overall IELTS score of 7.0 (with at least 6.5 in writing and 6.0 in all other sub-skills).
