Course overview

The Modern Languages MPhil and PhD are research-based programmes. You can specialise in topics in the languages of: Chinese, French, German, Japanese and Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American studies. Specialism is also possible in translating and interpreting.

The Modern Languages MPhil, PhD is offered through the School of Modern Languages. We offer expert supervision in the following areas: Chinese; French; German; Japanese; Spanish, Potuguese and Latin American Studies; Translating and Interpreting.

Entry Requirements

A 2:1 honours degree and normally a good master's degree in a subject related to one of the discipline areas covered by the School of Modern Languages. To study this course you need to meet our Band 8 English Language requirements: Direct Entry: IELTS 7.0 overall (with a minimum of 6.5 in all sub-skills) If you have lower English Language scores, you may be accepted onto a Pre-sessional English Language course.
