Heritage Practice MPrac


Course Description

Course Overview

Our Heritage Practice MPrac will give you essential and relevant work experience in the cultural and heritage sector. You will apply theoretical frameworks, learned during your MA studies, in a work-based context.

The course includes a supervised and mentored work-based placement in a heritage institution, organisation or agency. We will set up this placement for you following the submission of a project agreed by you, the placement organisation, and your tutors.

Previous cohorts of students have carried out their placements with: BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art; Beamish North of England Open Air Museum; Tyne and Wear Archives and Museums; The Great North Museum: Hancock; Hartlepool Arts, Museums and Events.

To apply for this course you must have successfully completed one of the following courses: Museum Studies MA; Art Museum and Gallery Studies MA; Heritage Studies MA, PGDip.

Entry Requirements

A 2:1 honours degree, or an international equivalent, in any subject. We will also consider your application if you have non-standard qualifications and/or relevant professional experience in the museum, gallery and heritage sectors. If you have borderline or non-standard qualifications we may contact you for more information. We may ask you attend an interview either in person, via telephone or Skype. If your first language is not English you need an overall IELTS score of 6.5 (with at least 6.0 in writing and speaking).
