School Leadership (MEd)

Course Description

Overview

This two-year part-time Master of Education degree is designed to support the professional development of those holding or aspiring towards leadership position in education. It gives educators the critical space to explore and reflect upon their practices in education, contextualising these experiences within educational theory, pedagogy and policy. It offers an opportunity for critical reflection on what you have experienced and the exploration of new ideas and opportunities in a collaborative environment.

Themes explored within the programme focus on issues of equality and diversity in education and the school as a learning environment. The course enables participants to explore the nature of educational leadership, studying the legislative, resource and policy context in which educational institutions operate, and undertaking a research project on educational leadership. A wide variety of methodologies – lectures, seminars, reflective practice, workshops and policy seminars – is used throughout in a supportive environment.

The course is designed to fit the schedule of educators and involves attendance at lectures at Maynooth University for one evening per week (currently Wednesdays), during the academic terms. Numbers admitted to this course are limited to facilitate collaborative and interactive engagement by participants.
