Nursing Studies MSc


Course Description

This innovative programme is suitable for any degree level practising nurse who wishes to follow a flexible modular pathway towards a masters degree or postgraduate diploma. It is particularly suited to nurses who wish to follow a clinical modular pathway to develop advanced practice. This course is only available to nurses registered in their country of practice (whether UK or otherwise).

- Facilities your acquisition of critical understanding and utilisation of advanced research skills and knowledge in order to conduct nursing related research.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Following completion of the MSc, you will have the opportunity to progress to PhD/DProf programmes offered by the University. You are likely to have enhanced career prospects if, on completion of the programme, you are able to demonstrate that you have met the required professional competencies for advanced practice roles as well as having a postgraduate qualification.

CONTENT

- The Postgraduate Diploma consists of 120 credits, and includes a core module of 30 credits, and 90 credits of optional modules to complete the programme.

- The MSc consists of 180 credits including two core modules of 90 credits and 90 credits of optional modules to complete the programme.

Core modules

- Students undertaking this programme have to successfully complete two core modules, research methods; either IPL 4001 - Social research methods (30 credits) or WBS 4630 Advanced Practitioner Enquiry (30 credits). For the award of the masters degree, a dissertation, either IPL 4095 MSc Dissertation (60 credits) or WBS 4760 Work Based Learning Project module (60 credits).

Entry Requirements

2:2 (hons degree) or equivalent qualification in Nursing or a related subject area. Be working as a nurse or have recent nursing experience (within one year).
