MRes Master of Research Business


Course Description

This research training programme is an excellent preparation for a PhD and provides a thorough grounding in workplace research skills.

You are supervised by an experienced academic team, become an affiliate member of the Research Institute for Business and Management, and have the opportunity to attend and present at the annual doctoral symposium.

The units covered in this research training programmes are: reviewing literature; quantitative and qualitative methods (sampling, data collection and analysis); research philosophy; and research design.

A specialist unit introduces a variety of research approaches and methods such as ethnography, grounded theory, discourse analysis, cognitive mapping, formal modelling and audio diaries.

You are supervised by an experienced academic team, become an affiliate member of the Research Institute for Business and Management, and have the opportunity to attend and present at the annual doctoral symposium.

The MRes forms the core research training programme recognised by the Economic and Social Science Research Council (ESRC) for doctoral research (PhD) and is for people who want to develop a research focused career. Successful graduates go on to pursue careers in academia, public sector bodies including National Health Service management or into business and social organisations in management and research roles.

Entry Requirements

You will normally have a good undergraduate honours degree or postgraduate management qualification. Overseas students are required to have achieved the IELTS qualification with a minimum score of 7.0.
